Before and After Maker

Choose a before and an after photo of the same shot. Get a wipe video, where a line sweeps across to reveal the edit and back, for Reels, TikTok and Shorts — or a side-by-side image. Both are made in your browser; your photos are never uploaded.

A silent MP4 (H.264, 30 fps) that loops cleanly: it holds on the before, sweeps to the after, holds, and sweeps back. Video is made with your browser's own encoder — a recent Chrome, Edge or Safari works best.

Your photos are combined and the video is encoded on this page. Nothing is uploaded or saved, and there's no watermark.

Write a caption that starts a conversation

Posting the edit? Snapshot's Engage goal writes the caption that gets people talking about it — which one they prefer, what changed — with hashtags and alt text.

How to use this

What it does

Puts a before and an after photo together, either as a side-by-side (or stacked) PNG, or as a short wipe video: a line sweeps across the frame revealing the after, holds, and sweeps back — the format editors and retouchers post to show their work.

What you'll need

  • The before photo (the original, or the unedited frame)
  • The after photo — ideally the same framing

Steps

  1. Choose the before and after photos.
  2. Pick video or image, the shape and the labels.
  3. Make the video or download the PNG.

Reading the result

In the wipe, the left of the line shows the before and the right shows the after. Both photos are cropped the same way to fill the frame, so the same shot lines up as the line moves.

Tips

  • Export both from your editor at the same size and crop.
  • 4:5 fills the feed; 9:16 is for Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
  • Leave the labels on — people swipe past without knowing which side is which.

What is a before and after wipe?

A wipe is a transition where one image replaces another behind a moving line. For a photo edit, it shows exactly what changed — colour, light, retouching — in a few seconds.

This tool draws every frame in your browser and encodes them with the browser's own video encoder (WebCodecs) into a silent MP4 you can post as a Reel, a TikTok or a Short.

Why photographers and editors use it

An edit is easy to underrate when you only see the result. Before and afters show the work, and the motion of a wipe stops the scroll more than a still does.

Common mistakes

  • Different crops. if the after was cropped tighter, the wipe jumps — export both at the same crop.
  • No labels. viewers can't always tell which side is the edit.
  • Too long. 6–10 seconds is enough for one sweep and back.

FAQ

Is there a watermark?
No. The image and the video are yours, with nothing added.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything — the drawing and the video encoding — happens in your browser.
Why won't the video button work in my browser?
Making video needs the WebCodecs encoder, which recent Chrome, Edge and Safari have. Firefox on some systems doesn't; the side-by-side image works everywhere.
Does the video have sound?
No, it's silent — add music in the app you post with.
