YouTube Tags

YouTube tags are optional keywords added in a video's settings, mainly to help with common misspellings of the title or topic; viewers don't see them.

Get tag ideas and see them counted against YouTube's 500 characters.

Why it matters

YouTube's own help says tags play a minimal role in a video's discovery and are most useful when the content is commonly misspelled; the title, thumbnail and description matter far more.

Tags still help with names that are easy to get wrong and with the show's own name. The whole list can hold 500 characters, and YouTube counts commas between tags, and a tag with a space as if it had quotes around it.

Example

A podcast called "Shutter Talk" adds the tags shutter talk, shuttertalk and shutter talk podcast, plus the guest's name and one common misspelling of it.

That's all: the topic is already clear from the title and description, and stuffing in twenty more tags would add nothing.
