Usage territory is the geographical area where a licence lets the images be used, such as one country, a region like the European Union, or worldwide.
General information, not legal advice. Laws differ by country and state — check with a lawyer where you work before you rely on it.
Territory is one of the three things, with the use and the period, that set the scope and the price of a licence. A local shop's flyer and a global campaign are very different uses of the same photo.
Online use is hard to keep inside a border, so licences for websites and social media are often worldwide, while print, outdoor and broadcast uses can be limited to where they run. Territory matters most in an exclusive licence: "exclusive in Italy" leaves the photographer free to license the image elsewhere.
A wine producer licenses a vineyard photo for labels sold in Italy and for its website. The licence says: labels, Italy; website and social media, worldwide; three years.
When the wine starts selling in Germany, the producer asks to add Germany for the labels, and the photographer adds it for an extra fee.
Write posts that bring in clients
Spotlight's Get clients mode turns a photo from a shoot into posts for every platform that say what you shoot, where you work and how to book or license from you.
Get clients is a mode of the Spotlight workspace on CAPTD's paid plans — see pricing.
