Podcast RSS Feed

A podcast RSS feed is a web address, written in a standard XML format, that lists a show's details and every episode's audio file, so apps such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify can find new episodes automatically.

Write the episode description your feed carries to every app.

Why it matters

The feed is the podcast as far as most apps are concerned: the title, artwork, description and each episode's title, notes and audio file all come from it.

A podcast host creates it; the show is submitted to each directory once, and every new episode then reaches them through the feed. If the feed breaks, or its artwork or description doesn't meet a directory's requirements, new episodes stop appearing there.

Example

A new show is set up on a podcast host, which gives it a feed address. The host submits that address to Apple Podcasts and Spotify once.

A week later she publishes episode two on the host; within hours it appears in both apps with its title, show notes and audio, because they read the same feed.

Do this automatically from your episode audio

Spotlight's Episode mode turns an episode into posts for every platform, chapters and clips.
