How to use this

What it does

A simple place to plan a shoot before you leave the house — location, date, gear to bring, and the specific shots you want to come back with. Everything is saved directly in your browser's local storage, not on a server, so it's private to this device and doesn't need an account.

What you'll need

  • A title for the shoot, plus whichever of location, date, gear and shot list you want to fill in.

Steps

  1. Fill in the shoot title and any details you want to plan ahead of time.
  2. Tap "Save shoot plan."
  3. Come back before the shoot to review it, or add more plans for other shoots.

Reading the result

Saved plans appear below the form, newest first. Nothing is sent anywhere — this data lives only in this browser, on this device, so it won't appear if you open the site on a different device or clear your browser data.

Tips

  • Pair this with the Golden & Blue Hour Planner and Sunrise & Sunset Calculator for the same date, so your shot list already accounts for the light you'll actually have.
  • Since this is device-local, export or copy anything important elsewhere before clearing your browser's site data.

What is a shot list, and why plan one?

A shot list is simply a written plan of the specific images you intend to come back with from a shoot — not just “go photograph the coast,” but the actual compositions, angles, and moments you're aiming for. Combined with logistics like gear and timing, it turns a vague plan into something you can actually execute against on location.

Why photographers use it

Without a plan, it's easy to arrive at a location, get absorbed in whatever's immediately in front of you, and leave having missed the shot you actually went there for — especially on a trip you won't easily repeat. A written shot list, checked against light timing and gear needs in advance, turns a shoot from reactive wandering into a plan with specific goals, while still leaving room to react to what you find.

Common mistakes

  • Making the shot list so rigid it kills spontaneity. a shot list works best as a starting checklist, not a strict script — the best frame of the day is often something you didn't plan for. Use the list to make sure you don't leave without the shots you know you want, not to ignore everything else.
  • Planning gear without checking it against the actual conditions. a gear list made weeks in advance can miss a late change in weather, light, or access — cross-check it again close to the actual shoot date.
  • Relying on this as the only copy of an important plan. this data lives only in your browser's local storage on this device — it won't sync elsewhere and can be lost if you clear your browser data. Copy anything critical somewhere more durable before a big trip.

Example settings

Coastal sunrise shoot

Location, date, gear: tripod/ND filters/spare batteries, shot list: wide reflection shot, tighter rock detail, silhouette against the sky

A saved plan you can review the night before, cross-checked against the Golden & Blue Hour Planner for that date

FAQ

Is my shot planner data private?
Yes — it's stored only in your browser's local storage on this device, never sent to CAPTD's servers or anywhere else.
Will my plans show up if I use a different device or browser?
No — local storage is specific to the browser and device it was saved in. There's currently no sync across devices.
Can I edit a saved plan after adding it?
Not directly in the current version — delete the entry and re-add it with your changes.
