CAPTD

Waveform Viewer & Image Maker

See the waveform of any song or episode, then turn it into an image: bars or a classic wave, your colours, on a solid or transparent background, at a social size or your own. Drawn in your browser — the audio is never uploaded.

Measured entirely in your browser — your audio is never uploaded anywhere.

Your audio is decoded and measured entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded or stored by CAPTD and never leaves your device.

Do this automatically from your episode audio

Want it moving? Spotlight's Episode mode makes audiograms — a live waveform with captions and a progress bar — as MP4 clips for every platform.

Episode mode is part of the Spotlight workspace on CAPTD's paid plans — see pricing.

How to use this

What it does

Decodes the file in your browser and keeps the peak level of every 10 ms. The viewer shows the whole file with clipping in red; the image maker draws the same peaks at the size, style and colours you choose and saves a PNG.

What you'll need

  • Any audio file: WAV, FLAC, AIFF, MP3, M4A, Ogg.
  • A size, a style and colours for the image.

Steps

  1. Drop the file on the box.
  2. Choose a size — or Custom — and Bars or Wave.
  3. Pick the wave and background colours, or a transparent background.
  4. Download the PNG.

Reading the result

Each bar (or column of the wave) is the loudest moment in its slice of the file, so loud passages stand tall and quiet ones low. A transparent PNG drops onto any cover art or video background.

Tips

  • Use Bars with a 2:1 bar-to-gap ratio for a clean, modern look.
  • Banner and Strip sizes suit a podcast website header or a YouTube end screen.
  • Pick the wave colour from your cover art so the image belongs with it.

What is a waveform image?

A waveform is the shape of a sound's level over time. As an image, it's a quick visual signature of a song or an episode — used in cover art, show artwork, social posts and website players.

This tool draws the peak level, not the full wave, so a three-hour episode and a three-minute song both fit cleanly into one picture.

Why creators use it

A waveform makes audio visible in a feed full of images. Made from your own file, it's unique to the track or episode it shows.

Common mistakes

  • Bars too thin for the size. at 1920 px wide, 1-px bars turn into grey noise; 4–8 px reads clearly.
  • No margin. a waveform touching the edges looks cropped; keep 5–10%.
  • Low contrast. pick a wave colour that stands out from the background.

Presets for landscape, square, story, banner and strip, or any custom size up to 8000 px a side.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. It's decoded and drawn in your browser.
